Charleston, S.C. – Sept. 15, 2016 – Benefitfocus, Inc. (NASDAQ: BNFT), a leading provider of cloud-based benefits management software, today announced major platform upgrades as part of its Autumn 2016 Software Release. Available immediately, the release provides human resource leaders with tools they need to engage their workforce during the upcoming open enrollment period.

A platform designed for today’s mobile workforce
A study completed by Pew Research found that 62 percent of smartphone users have used their device to research a medical condition. As health care consumerism and employee engagement continue to rise in importance, the Autumn Release provides Benefitfocus customers with the tools they need to engage an increasingly mobile workforce. Building on an extensive mobile solution that already includes secure fingerprint authentication and mobile access to benefits information, consumers on the BENEFITFOCUS® Platform now have the ability to complete open enrollment on the mobile device of their choice, either through the BENEFITFOCUS® App or directly through the mobile optimized BENEFITFOCUS® Marketplace.
Additional capabilities to support open enrollment success
In addition to mobile optimized, open enrollment support, the company announced several major advances to its technology platform that further reduce benefits management complexity and increase benefits administration capacity including:
- Simplified invoice reconciliation and increased payment accuracy – The company announced the availability of BENEFITFOCUS® Billing and Payment. This new solution includes Consolidated Billing and Payment, which allows benefit leaders to generate and pay a single invoice from plan enrollment data captured in the Benefitfocus Marketplace. The new feature streamlines the monthly billing and reconciliation process, increases payment accuracy and saves valuable time for benefits leaders.
- Engage employees with the right message during open enrollment – During open enrollment it is increasingly important to engage employees with the right message at the right time. With the Autumn Release benefit leaders will have access to new reporting and messaging capabilities available through the Event Driven Messaging Center in the Benefitfocus Marketplace.
- Additional tools to manage content across the Benefitfocus Platform –Building on an ongoing commitment to personalization, Benefitfocus customers now have access to additional content management capabilities within the open enrollment workflow. In a few simple steps, benefits leaders can now adjust content; for example, switching from the term “employee” to “associate” to tailor the experience further.
The company also announced that the One Place 365 Idea Community—a feature that headlined last quarter’s Summer 2016 Software Release—resulted in several new features available immediately to all customers. A community-driven innovation platform, the Idea Community allows Benefitfocus customers to submit and vote for new product features. With the Autumn Release a number of new features submitted by Benefitfocus customers are now available to further streamline open enrollment for benefits leaders.
