Both rankings are based entirely on employee feedback from Great Place to Work® surveys of more than 88,000 millennials (born 1981 or later) and more than 109,000 Gen Xers (born between 1965 and 1980).

Employees at 620 Great Place to Work-certified organizations rated their companies on 58 workplace-quality questions. Millennials considered factors such as the sincerity of managers’ support for people’s personal and professional lives, how transparent communication is, people’s ability to be themselves at work and to invest in their lives outside work, and the meaning they get from their jobs. Gen Xers considered factors such as advancement opportunities, generosity of benefits packages, genuineness of work-life balance support, connections with their colleagues, and the ability to make a difference in their work. These anonymous responses resulted in a total score for each company, which was compared with the benchmark for organizations of that size.
