Herr’s selects BENEFITFOCUS® Marketplace to enhance benefits enrollment

Charleston, S.C. – May 27, 2015 – Benefitfocus, Inc. (NASDAQ: BNFT), a leading provider of cloud-based benefits software solutions, announced today that Herr Foods Inc. selected BENEFITFOCUS® Marketplace with the BENEFITFOCUS® Communication Portal to improve its employee benefits experience. The family-owned snack foods company will utilize the technology to help perfect its recipe for employee satisfaction and engagement.

Herr’s will guide 1,350 benefits eligible employees through open enrollment this summer and will help them make good choices with new resources such as personalized information notifications, “best match” plan options and coverage calculators. Herr’s has made significant advancements to its comprehensive benefits and wellness plan over the years and aims to raise employee understanding and engagement with a consumer-driven experience that provides all their benefits in one place.

“We needed a better way to communicate with our employees so that they could receive bite-sized pieces of information in a way that is convenient and easy to digest – whether that be on a computer, a smartphone or whatever way they prefer to be reached,” said Herr’s Benefits Manager Steven Ewing. “Benefitfocus Marketplace and its built-in Communication Portal provide a user-friendly experience for our employees so that they can easily find the information they need and be ready to make informed decisions without being overwhelmed when open enrollment rolls around.”

A recognized leader in the snack food industry, Herr’s is headquartered in Nottingham, Pennsylvania. The family-owned-and-operated company began 65 years ago and makes a wide variety of more than 340 snack products that are available in all 50 states and worldwide. In addition to enhancing its benefits administration technology, the company has made a commitment to improving its employee wellbeing by offering health saving account incentives, becoming a tobacco-free campus, providing telehealth options, and creating programs to help educate its workforce on low-cost coverage options and care quality.

“Herr’s is doing an amazing job of helping its employees to be informed healthcare consumers, and Benefitfocus is excited to support them with a beautiful data-driven platform that is easy to use,” said Benefitfocus CEO Shawn Jenkins. “Benefits are good, and with the right software they have a greater ability to improve employees’ quality of life and wellbeing.”

Benefitfocus Marketplace is a highly configurable benefits platform designed to provide a consumer-driven experience to help simplify enrollment and administration. The Communication Portal features an engaging content management system that allows administrators to send relevant content via email or text message to specific employee segments. It enables automated confirmation messages to be sent after an employee completes an activity such as enrollment, and makes it easy to create communication campaigns that promote company culture, wellness initiatives and more – all through one benefits management platform.

Benefitfocus unveiled its all new Marketplace and Communication Portal earlier this year at its annual One Place customer conference.
