First Annual On-Demand Talent Report Surveyed 1,037 Businesses on Their Use of On-Demand Labor

NEW YORK (Jan. 26, 2016) –  Work Market, the leading on-demand marketplace for independent professionals, today shared that nearly 17% of the U.S. workforce, or approximately 27 million Americans, are now part of the corporate on-demand economy, according to findings from its exclusive new research report, titled the “2016 Corporate On-Demand Talent Report.”

With responses from more than 1,000 executives from around the country, the research readily illustrates not only the importance of skilled independent talent but also reveals some of the most prominent trends impacting the on-demand economy, the rise of online staffing and the challenges facing contingent workforce managers.

“The on-demand economy represents one of the biggest labor revolutions in decades,” said Jeff Wald, president and co-founder of Work Market. “We conducted this survey to provide much needed insight into how today’s employers are modernizing their talent strategies and operating models to capitalize on a new labor landscape.”

Among the other findings:

  •  88 percent of businesses are currently using an on-demand workforce
  • 73 percent of businesses are still managing their on-demand workforce manually
  • 56 percent of businesses are not using data or analytics to make decisions about their workforce

“The on-demand economy is radically transforming how today’s businesses sell, compete and innovate,” said Fred Wilson, co-founder of Union Square Ventures. “These survey findings suggest that independent professionals are increasingly becoming a strategic and integral part of a modern workforce.”

For the study, data was collected from an online survey of 1,037 executives between Nov. 12, 2015 and Dec. 11, 2015. Additional information about Work Market’s 2016 Corporate On-Demand Talent Report can be found at http://bit.ly/OnDemandTalentReport.
