The last book you read: My Cross to Bear, an autobiographic memoir written by Gregg Allman from the Allman Brothers Band.
What do you do when you’re not working? Anything outdoors! I love camping, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and fishing. I am also a Wilderness First Responder, so I help with wilderness search and rescue.
How did you find out about HRchitect, and what made you join the company? I first learned about HRchitect when I met some folks from the company at a conference in Denver a few years ago. I was looking for a company to help with a workforce management system implementation, and I liked the people from HRchitect that I met.
How has your background impacted your experience as a consultant? I have about 15 years of HR experience. In my first job, I went through consultant training. That has been helpful and is something that I carry through all my client engagements. So the combination of my early experience as well as my educational background have been very beneficial.
In your own words, what do you do at HRchitect? I am an Implementation Consultant. In this role, I listen to the client, determine areas of improvement and inefficiencies in their current processes, recommend and deliver solutions, and then configure, test and deploy efficient and effective workforce management systems for these clients.
What’s a typical workday like for you? I’m an early morning person. I wake up about 5-5:30 am. Then, I start work at 6-6:30 am. A typical day is a combination of meetings with clients to determine requirements, configuring, user acceptance testing, and general discussions regarding deployment options and timelines.
Tell me about a project you’ve worked on that you’re particularly proud of. I just started with HRchitect a few months ago, but even in that short time, there is one project that I have been involved with that stands out to me. I have been working on a large-scale project for a wastewater and water utility company bringing together their systems. I am highly involved in the requirements for this client’s workforce management system and determine how it will impact and integrate with their other systems. The client has roughly 17 unions, which requires a lot of complex configuration work. This is the largest scale workforce management system implementation that I have worked on, and I’m enjoying the challenge.
What’s been one of your favorite destinations to travel to for a client site visit? I spent four months in Germany, just outside of Cologne, in a role I was in earlier in my career, working on a global SAP implementation. I traveled back and forth from the U.S. to Germany for a week at a time after that for an entire year.
As part of a team that works 100% virtually, what technology or collaboration tools do you use to make your work life easier? Slack has been great for getting quick responses from colleagues and tracking meetings. I also really enjoy using Zoom, the platform HRchitect uses for company-wide virtual events like our monthly virtual happy hours and quarterly virtual trivia nights.
What motivates you to wake up and go to work every day? Honestly, I really like solving problems and finding solutions to help our clients. The job itself is a fun challenge.
Which employee perk that HRchitect offers do you enjoy the most? Why? I enjoy the flexibility of the work hours and PTO. It’s not a big deal if I schedule appointments during the workday. I can work a schedule that works for my life and take time off when I need it. I also work with a great team that I find to be very supportive and flexible.
