Our Employee Spotlight series provides an opportunity to meet the remarkable individuals at HRchitect. Each month, we highlight a member of our team. This helps you learn more about their unique contributions. Also, you get to know them on a personal level.

This month, we are excited to feature Scott Kopco, Director of Public Sector Sales, who supports HRchitect’s UKG public sector business. He brings a calm, steady, people-first approach to every conversation.

Scott’s path into this work did not begin with a master plan. He studied Industrial Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State, expecting one kind of career. However, he found another almost by accident. Hungry one day on campus, he followed the promise of free pizza into a recruiting event for PricewaterhouseCoopers. He stayed, listened, and walked out with the start of a career. That would eventually lead him into consulting, sales, and nearly two decades in the UKG ecosystem.

That story fits Scott pretty well. What matters to him is understanding people, building trust, and helping clients get where they need to go with the right support behind them. After 15+ years in previous HCM roles, he joined HRchitect in search of something that felt more personal. What he found in HRchitect was a stronger sense of community. Here, people genuinely jump in, support one another, and care about doing right by the client.

That same mindset shows up in the rest of his life, too.

Outside of work, Scott is a concertgoer, an audiobook listener, a serious home cook, and a builder in the most literal sense. Alongside his wife, he volunteers with local school and community theater productions, designing and building sets that help bring each show to life. One weekend, he may be helping students frame stage pieces. Another, he is in the garage constructing modular set elements. Yet another, he is at a venue with his son, waiting for the lights to go down before the next show starts.

Work that feels genuinely useful is what matters most to him. Authentic people are the ones he’s drawn to. Being part of something bigger than himself is what gives him purpose.

Whether that is a public sector client, a project team, or a group of kids writing thank-you notes in crayon after a school production, Scott shows up the same way every time. He is steady, generous, and ready to help make things work.

“I hope people feel comfortable with me. I hope they feel like they can be themselves, like we have been friends for a long time even if we just met.”

Hometown: Central Pennsylvania, and still proudly home. After spending time up and down the East Coast, Scott eventually made his way back to the place that always felt like home.

Favorite way to stay active right now: Set-building, theater work, and getting outside for a walk when Pennsylvania weather cooperates.

Go-to resetLive music, a theater weekend, or time in the kitchen making something new.

A book, podcast, or show he recommends: Autobiographies and history on audiobook. At the time of the interview he was listening to, a book on Prince Harry.

Favorite meal: Anything that lets him explore. He loves trying different cultural foods and has a soft spot for Indian, Thai, and Chinese-inspired dishes.

Favorite thing to do in his free time: Building sets for local school and community theater productions with his wife.

One of the best things about talking with Scott is realizing how naturally the personal and professional sides of his life align. He may spend his workday partnering with clients, consultants, and delivery teams. However, the through line is the same everywhere: build trust, do the work well, and help people feel supported.

That is also what makes his volunteer work feel so meaningful. What began as supporting his kids in theater turned into something much bigger. Today, Scott helps build sets for middle school, high school, and community productions. He often works side by side with students and his wife, who handles much of the artistic design. He teaches kids how to use tools safely, helps turn rough ideas into something real, and takes joy in watching the final production come together.

He loves the creativity, but he also loves the people. While many people are quick to underestimate younger generations, Scott sees something different. He sees appreciative kids, strong community ties, and the kind of simple gratitude that ends up hanging on the fridge in handwritten notes.

In your own words, what do you do at HRchitect?
As Director of Public Sector Sales, I help public sector organizations understand what services they need to successfully implement and support their UKG solutions. In simple terms, UKG sells the software. I help make sure customers have the right consulting support behind it so the work gets done well. I also work closely with our internal teams to make sure what we are proposing is something we can deliver successfully.

What’s a good day in your role, and what makes it good?
A good day is always one where I sell something, but beyond that, it is a day where everything is aligned. I like getting started early, getting organized before meetings begin, and making sure I am set up to support customers, partners, and the delivery team throughout the day.

What’s something about you that doesn’t show up in your job title, but shows up in how you work?
A strong community mindset guides much of my approach. Being a dependable presence for customers, teammates, and partners is a priority. Moving things forward and offering support wherever possible is the goal.

What’s a small moment at HRchitect that made you think, “Yep, this is my kind of team”?
Joining just before UKG Aspire was a big one. I had the chance to meet a lot of people early on, in person, and that made a real difference. It helped me feel connected right away and confirmed that this was a team-oriented culture.

What does client-first look like in real life for you?
It means making sure we are selling work that is right for the customer and something we can actually deliver successfully. I work closely with the delivery team because I do not want to sell something that creates problems later. Client-first is not just saying yes. It is making sure the yes is the right one.

Sales can be fast, noisy, and high stakes. What keeps you grounded when things get busy?
Routine helps. Starting early helps. Staying connected to the people I work with helps. I also think experience helps you learn what matters most and how to stay calm when there is a lot going on.

Who do you partner with most internally, and what does great collaboration look like to you?
I work most closely with the service delivery team and with consultants across the practice. Great collaboration means staying aligned, bringing the right people into the conversation, and making sure what we promise is something we can deliver well. That is especially important in my role as Director of Public Sector Sales, because success depends on trust from both the client and the team delivering the work.

What’s your leadership style?
Lead by example. I try to do the things I would expect from anyone looking to me for guidance or support.

What’s something you do consistently that helps others succeed, especially behind the scenes?
I try to be thoughtful about what I am asking for and what I am selling. A lot of success comes from making sure the work is set up properly before it ever reaches delivery.

What do you love about working with public sector organizations?
It is mission-driven work. These are organizations serving communities. There is something meaningful about supporting people whose work has such a direct public impact.

In longer sales cycles, trust matters. What are your trust builders?
Being reliable, being responsive, and being honest. People need to know they can count on you, and that starts with doing what you say you are going to do.

What’s something you really appreciate about working remotely at HRchitect?
I have worked remotely for a long time, so it feels natural to me. I appreciate having my own space, no commute, and fewer distractions. It helps me get focused quickly and be intentional about my day.

What’s one routine that helps you stay connected while working remotely?
The weekly team meeting helps, and being on calls regularly helps too. For me, connection comes from staying in touch consistently and making sure I am available when people need something.

What advice would you give someone new joining HRchitect?
Get to know your team as quickly as you can. No one does this work alone, and those relationships make a huge difference.

What do you want coworkers to know about how to work best with you?
I value communication, collaboration, and straightforwardness. Bring me in, keep me looped in, and let’s work through things together.

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to this year, personally or professionally?
Professionally, I am looking forward to hitting my one-year anniversary at HRchitect. Personally, I am excited to see what comes next for my youngest son as he gets closer to graduation from Penn State.

Scott brings a grounded kind of confidence to HRchitect. As Director of Public Sector Sales, he knows how to build trust with clients, collaborate with internal teams, and keep people at the center of the work. He is just as comfortable helping shape a services conversation as he is building a stage set in his garage. He is also just as comfortable catching a rock show with his son.

He is practical, thoughtful, and community-minded in all the right ways, and we are lucky to have him on the team.
