New York Non-Profit
Client Background
This HRchitect client is a non-profit church headquartered in New York City, with additional locations in Connecticut and California. The organization employs over 400 individuals and supports a diverse set of operations, including a historic cemetery and mausoleum associated with several notable figures.
Prior to engaging HRchitect, the client relied on a collection of outdated, disconnected systems that limited automation, reporting capabilities, and overall operational efficiency.
The Challenge
The client recognized the need to modernize its HR and payroll processes by moving to a unified, full-suite HCM solution. Their existing systems were cumbersome, lacked integration, and required significant manual effort, creating inefficiencies for the HR team and limiting access to meaningful data.
While the client had already selected UKG as their new system, they needed a trusted implementation partner to ensure the platform was properly configured to align with their unique organizational structure, including nuanced taxation rules, multiple pay groups, and varying payroll frequencies. Additionally, the client required guidance on best practices, process improvements, and end-user training to ensure successful adoption across the organization.

The Project
HRchitect partnered with the client to implement UKG using a phased approach. Phase one included the deployment of Core HR, Payroll, and Time & Attendance across two FEINs, followed by Open Enrollment/Life Events and Onboarding in subsequent phases.
The project began with requirements gathering, where HRchitect worked closely with the client to understand their processes and identify opportunities for improvement. The consulting team then led system configuration, testing, and deployment, ensuring the system aligned with the client’s operational and compliance needs.
Special attention was given to configuring payroll elements such as earnings, deductions, and employer contributions across weekly and semi-monthly pay groups. HRchitect also developed time import templates to simplify future payroll activities, such as bonus processing and commission payments.
To support long-term success, HRchitect conducted comprehensive end-user training sessions tailored to different user groups, including HR, managers, and employees. The team also provided post-live support, particularly when the client acquired a California-based university shortly after go-live, requiring additional configuration, process updates, and training.
