Semiconductor Manufacturer
Client Background
HRchitect engaged with a global innovation leader in the semiconductor industry to lead the implementation of the client’s new Workforce Time and Attendance system. This client has over 5,000 employees globally, with a significant engineering population in the United States, focusing on project based assignments.
The Challenge
The client faced significant challenges due to decentralized timekeeping systems across its U.S. operations, resulting in inefficiencies for both managers and the centralized payroll team. Multiple systems required duplicate effort, manual workarounds, and inconsistent processes, limiting visibility and increasing administrative burden. Additionally, the integration of a newly acquired subsidiary introduced further complexity, as separate employee populations and payroll systems needed to be maintained during the transition. The client required a single, unified time capture solution that could support complex payroll rules, integrate with existing systems, and improve overall efficiency while ensuring high user adoption.

The Project
HRchitect was engaged to lead the implementation of WorkForce Software’s Time & Attendance solution using a phased approach to support change management and user adoption.
Phase One focused on foundational system configuration for multiple employee groups, including exempt, non-exempt, contractors, and interns. HRchitect implemented various time entry methods, such as web-based entry, web clocks, and physical time clocks. During this phase, the team also addressed the complexity of maintaining separate employee populations by configuring custom exports, reports, and multi-format payroll integrations to support parallel systems during the transition period.
Phase Two expanded the system to include a large engineering population that relied on a custom time capture application integrated with SAP CATS. HRchitect designed a sophisticated solution leveraging web services, allowing employees to continue using their existing application while routing time data through WorkForce for rule application, validation, and payroll processing. This ensured compliance with complex payroll regulations while maintaining a seamless user experience.
Phase Three focused on optimizing manager workflows and increasing efficiency. HRchitect implemented additional web services that enabled managers to review and approve time directly within SAP, with approvals automatically syncing to the WorkForce system. This eliminated the need for multiple system logins and significantly reduced time spent on administrative tasks. Additional enhancements improved reporting functionality and overall system usability.
Key Benefits
-
Unified time capture across U.S. operations
-
Significant reduction in manual processes
-
Streamlined payroll processing from a single system
-
Improved compliance with automated rule application
-
Enhanced manager efficiency and productivity
-
High user adoption and improved user experience
The Results
After completing all three phases of the project, the client is benefiting significantly from the implementation of the Workforce Time & Attendance system. User adoption of the new system is extremely high and employees cite the new system as substantially more user-friendly than the previous time entry system. Managers enjoy a drastic decrease in the level of effort required to process timesheet and payroll approvals. The payroll team can extract timesheet data from a single system, with the confidence that from a compliance perspective, all payroll rules are being applied correctly, and the team is able to process payroll in just a few clicks. The client commented that, “compensation and benefits policy alignment between our various sectors and business units would not have been possible without the implementation of the Workforce Time & Attendance system.”
Currently, the employee population utilizing the Workforce Time and Attendance system has exceeded 5,200 employees, with roughly 1,000 of those employees using the web services for daily time entry import, validations and approvals. Since the initial implementation has been completed, the client continues to work with HRchitect for ongoing support. The HRchitect consulting team continues to enjoy working with this client team to accommodate post-live modifications and troubleshooting support. Working with HRchitect on an ongoing basis has also provided the client the flexibility to continue a phased training approach as the client company continues to grow and increase employee headcount across the globe.
