James Westbrock

Our Spotlight series provides an opportunity to meet the remarkable individuals at HRchitect. Each month, we highlight a member of our team, so you can learn more about their unique contributions and get to know them on a personal level.

This month, we are celebrating James Westbrock, Partner Marketing Manager, and the calm, thoughtful approach he brings to our partner marketing efforts.

James has spent much of the past seven years working in partner marketing across technology and consulting. He describes himself as a marketing generalist, which fits perfectly at HRchitect where the work is varied, fast-moving, and always collaborative.

One of the things that stood out to James during the interview process was the company’s leadership culture. After finding the role on LinkedIn and doing his research, he remembers reading an interview that highlighted how approachable and grounded HRchitect leadership is. Once he joined, that impression stuck. James shared that it is the kind of place where it feels normal to connect with leaders across the organization, and that matters.

James’s perspective is also shaped by where he grew up. Originally from Melbourne, Australia, he brings a composed, steady presence to his work and he values challenge and active thinking, while keeping work in its rightful place. For him, work is important, but it is not everything. Family, life outside of work, and balance are the foundation, and that mindset shows up in how he approaches priorities, partners, and problem-solving.

When partner marketing is working at its best, James says it is all about alignment. When both organizations understand each other and share a clear plan, the work runs more smoothly and the marketing becomes more exciting. He pointed to HRchitect’s relationship with Dayforce as a great example, especially after a strong planning session that helped both teams map out how to support each other in 2026.

Hometown: I’m from Melbourne, Australia originally. I spent the first 23 to 24 years of my life there. The value I carry with me is perspective. I like to be challenged and I enjoy my work, but work is only one part of my life. What I value most is my family, my wife Savannah, and our pets, and I appreciate being at a company where work-life balance is respected and you can stay calm and in control.

Favorite restaurant: SweetArt in St. Louis. It’s a woman-owned, Black-owned vegan spot, and it feels like it represents the community here. The vibe is great, the food is fun, and it’s one of my favorite places to celebrate, including my birthday.

My go-to order: We usually start with the fried cauliflower. I’ll get one of their burgers for the entrée, and Savannah loves one of their salads too.

A song I never get tired of

Favorite motto or quote: “It’s just a spark, but it’s enough to keep me going. And when it’s dark out, no one’s around, it keeps glowing.”

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time? Family time. That includes time outside with the dogs, whether it’s taking them on long walks or playing fetch with them in the backyard, hanging out on the couch and watching Taskmaster with Savannah and the pets all around us, and cooking fun vegetarian dinners for me and Savannah. Also watching sport by myself. It’s my alone activity.

What are you reading right now? I used to be a prolific reader, but my master’s degree knocked that out of me a bit, so I read a lot more sports journalism and news now. The book I’ve been reading lately is 488 Rules for Life: The Thankless Art of Being Correct by Kitty Flanagan. It’s silly and fun. My favorite book is Flowers for Algernon, but I don’t reread it often because it’s heavy.

What is your title, and what do you do for HRchitect? I’m the Partner Marketing Manager. I support our partner marketing efforts and help drive alignment to ensure the collaboration works well for both sides. When we understand our partners, and they understand us, planning becomes easier and marketing more fun.

How I found HRchitect: LinkedIn. I was job hunting, researched the company, and what stood out to me was the leadership culture. I got the sense it would be a strong cultural fit, and meeting the team reinforced that.

What makes working at HRchitect so great? The culture and the people. Leadership feels approachable, and that tone carries across the organization. It’s the kind of place where you can connect with others, ask questions, and get support when you need it.

What project or initiative have you worked on that you are most proud of? Dayforce Discover last year. It was about week six of my job and my first big project. I put a lot of pressure on myself because I wanted it to go well, and it did. The team was lovely and helpful, and it was meaningful to see everything come together successfully so early on.

What I am focused on for 2026: I’m excited about the growth potential with Advisory Services. The team has so much knowledge we can use not only for clients, but also in marketing to showcase why they’re such a special team. I’m also looking forward to continuing strong alignment and planning with partners like Dayforce, because that makes the work more energizing for everyone.

Outside of work travel, what has been your favorite place to spend time? Home, honestly. We’re in the St. Louis metro and love it here. We live on a cul-de-sac with lots of families around, and it feels like a real community.

James brings a calm, thoughtful energy to partner marketing, and he is at his best when there is a clear shared plan and a team moving in sync. From stepping into Dayforce Discover early in his HRchitect journey to looking ahead at new ways to elevate Advisory Services, he’s helping shape how we show up with partners and how we tell the story of the work we do.
